An Actual Actuary
Today's post is dedicated to a young man by the name of Thomas Simon Coulton Crawford from Hunstanton in Norfolk. You and I know him as Tbol, The Bollock, The Real Tom Crawsort, Seedy Crawsort, Tommy C, Tommy Lee Crawford, The Southern Pusseh or just plain Tom. Well whatever the moniker, Tom is a thoroughly good bean, a top chap if you will and a great mate to many a monkey. Here he is looking like the intellectual he is.

Young Thomas has this past few years been pursuing a rather unusual career, that of an actuary. For those unfamiliar, an actuary can be defined as "a statistician who computes insurance risks and premiums". It is a very complex profession that only the super-intelligent, the mathematically gifted and the very brave enter into. The bravery is required to negotiate the painfully arduous training process that is required to become a fully qualified actuary. No less than 15 gruelling examinations must be undertaken and passed before this most noble of titles is bestowed. It normally takes around 8 years to get through these exams, with almost every candidate failing exams on the way.
You've probably guessed it by now, and I'm proud to say that our Tom has overcome the obstacles, confounded the critics and is now a bonafide actuary! Much to his surprise, he passed his final 2 exams and has completed the requisite 15 exams in a remarkably short time period. I make it something like 3-4 years, which is roughly half the time people normally take. So I'd like to take this opportunity to tip our collective hats, raise our collectives glasses and give an almighty group pat on the back to Thomas who from now on shall be known as Tom the Actuary. Congratumalations and well done that man! I'm sure you can now afford to buy us all a drink to celebrate.
Some more good news is that today in Austin the temperature reached a sizzling 30 degrees celcius (thats over 80 in old money). I spent the day in shorts and t-shirt drinking beer and lounging around. Just your average early December day. Better still is that Everton won again, and this time we scored 2 (count em) goals! Amazing. Come on you Blues.
Enjoy the drizzle.
